VIPs Lab is a laboratory foroverseas returned scholarssponsored by theMinistry of Education(MOE), China, which is affiliated with theSchool of Electronic Engineering,Xidian University, Xi'an, China. It is located at the Main Building III-418-430, Scientific Building B-401 of the North Campus of Xidian University. Now, the Director of VIPs Lab is Prof.Xinbo Gao.

"VIPs" means "Video & Image Processing System" or "Visual Information Processing". As the name suggests, the main research interests of VIPs Lab includevisual information processing, analysis, and under-standing. Currently our research mainly involves: artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition, and their applications in visual information processing, analysis and understanding, including big visual data mining and deep learning, smart city and so on.

VIPs Lab was funded in 2001. Since then, It has been sponsored by NSFC, MOE, MOST, Shaanxi Province and other organizations. So far, VIPs Lab has been selected asthe Key Technological Creation Teamby Shaanxi Province, theInnovative Research Team in Universityby Ministry of Education, andInnovation Team in the Important Fieldby Ministry of Science and Technology, China, in 2012, 2013 and 2014, respectively.
