The 2022 Xidian University Confucius Institute Council Conferencewas successfully held in the afternoon of December 13. Professor Zhang Xinliang, President of XidianUniversity and Chinese Chair of the Board ofthe Confucius Institute, Mr. Justin Yeoh, Malaysian Chair of the Board ofthe Confucius Institute, Mr. Heinz Paus, German Chair of the Board oftheConfucius Institute, members of the board and directors of the two Confucius Institutes attended the meeting. The meeting was hostedby Professor Zhang Jincheng, Vice President ofXidian Universityand Chinese Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute.

At the 2022 Council Conference of the Confucius Institute Shen Jai, Malaysia, ProfessorZhang Xinliang fully affirmed the foundational work of the Confucius Institute in the early stage and expressed his gratitude to all parties for their contributions. He pointed out that the university would continue to empower the future construction and development of Confucius Institute, upholding the principles of "mutual respect, friendly consultation, equality and mutual benefit" and taking advantage of information technology, digitalization and intelligence of both sides. He hoped that while doing a good job in Chinese education, the Shen Jai Confucius Institute in Malaysia could also work as a platform, continuously innovating the cooperative training model on the basis of existing joint talent training projects, and make greater contributions to the brand-building of the first global "Chinese Language + Digital Silk Road" Confucius Institute and serving the construction of "Digital Silk Road".

Mr. Justin Yeohexpressed his thanks to Xidan University for providing comprehensive support for the successful approval of the Confucius Institute. The establishment of the Shen Jai Confucius Institute in Malaysia has received great attention and high expectations from the Malaysian government, educational institutions, companies and social organizations. He said that with the support of all sectors in China and Malaysia, the Shen Jai Confucius Institute in Malaysia would not only strive to become an outstanding center for Chinese learning and cultural exchanges, but also a bridge for promoting cooperation between Malaysia and China in many fields.

At the Council Conference of the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany held later, Professor Zhang Xinliang fully affirmed the achievements made by the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany and expressed his gratitude to the colleagues of the Confucius Institute. He pointed out that the long-term and stable development of the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany resulted from deep mutual trust, close cooperation and joint efforts of the two sides. He hoped that the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany could take the meeting as an opportunity to systematically review the experience of running the institute, andon the basis of doing a good job in Chinese teaching, unfold a new chapter for promoting the mutualculturallearning between Germany and China. It could continue to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities in the fields of electronic information and computer science, and constantly enhance the cooperation between the two universities in talent training, scientific research and other fields to make new progress.

In his speech, Mr Heinz Paus thanked XidianUniversity for its support since the establishment of the Confucius Institute in the areas of infrastructure construction, talent training, faculty deployment and student exchange. As a carrier of language and culture exchange, the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany integrates the ideas of both China and Germany, and demonstrates the characteristics of closely combining Chinese education with the needs of local economic and social development, playing an important role in the educational cooperation between the two universities. Paderborn University looks forward to further working with Xidian Universityto enhance faculty and student exchanges, deepen scientific research cooperation in the fields of electronic information and humanities, and promote the internationalization of education between the two universities.

The council conference heard the annual work report and financial report of the Confucius Institutes in 2022 and the work plan for 2023. Professor Zhang Jincheng said that the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany had made remarkable achievements in institutional construction, Chinese language teaching and promotion of Chinese culture, establishing the brand of the Confucius Institute at Paderborn University and consolidating and developing inter-university relations. At the same time, he affirmed the various cooperation initiatives of the two universities in the 2023 work plan and looked forward to strengthening cooperation with Paderborn University in various fields.

The Council Conference of the Confucius Institute Paderborn, Germany also held in-depth discussions on potential cooperation in humanities, philosophy and social sciences.
