Terracotta Warriors and Horses Online Class Opens for Japanese Students

Recently, the online class themed "A Glimpseof Qin Dynasty Culture Terracotta Warriors and Horses", jointly launched by Xidian University (XDU) and Japan-China New Century Association, was open for more than 120 students from five high schools in Japan. As an essentialpart of activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, this activity gets greatsupport from the Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in Japan and theEmperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum. Dong Yongying, associate professor of Xidian University and a visiting researcher of the Museum, presided over the class.

XDU Vice President Zhang Jinchengattend the opening ceremony and introduced the ancient capital of Xi’an and Xidian University. He hoped that Japanese high school students could deepen their understanding of China, Xi'an and Xidian through this activity, and he invited everyone to visit,study and live in Xi'an. Yoshimura Yamawa, Director of the Japan-China New Century Association, Chen Liping, Counsellor of Education Office of Embassy of the People’s Republc of Chinain Japan, and Tian Jing, Vice President of the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museumdelivered speeches.

During the live broadcast, Wang Jinbo, a teacher of the Japanese Department of XDU gave a lecture on Chinese history and culture. More than 100 senior high school students from Tokyo Metropolitan Toshima High School, Den-enChofu Gakuen High School, Shotoku Gakuen Junior & Senior High School, Nittaidai Ebara High School, and Keimei Gakuen High School attended the class.To help the studentsunderstand the historical, artistic and scientific value ofthe archaeological excavation, protection and restoration moves of the heritage, teachers guided the students to visit the sites of Pit 1, Pit 2 and Pit 3 where the Terracotta Warriors and Horsesare exhibited via the camera.

Under the "Internet+Chinese Civilization" program, Xidian University, together with the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, has found a solution tothe time and spacerestrictions to promotethe practices in interpreting Qin Dynasty culture amongoverseas students via digital "cloud live broadcast". This class has been carried out dozens of times for college, middle school and primary school students in such countries as the United States, Italy, and South Korea, and it has been well received.
