On the morning of November 3, the 2020 State Science and Technology Award Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Three projects led by Xidian University (XDU) were bestowed the 2020 State Science and Technology Award. Among them, the project of High-density Flexible Antenna Electromechanical Coupling Technology and Comprehensive Design Platform and Application led by Academician Duan Baoyan won the first-class Scientific and Technological Progress Award, which is the first of its kind in the history of the university. The project has opened up a new field of antenna technology research and led the leapfrog development of high-performance electronic equipment in China. The project of IoT System Data Security Key Technology and Application led by Professor Ma Jianfeng won the second-class State Technological Invention Award. The project led by Professor Zhou Feng secured the same award.

The former project independently developed China's first comprehensive design platform for high-density flexible antenna that integrates electromagnetic, structure and heat. It has been successfully used in China's first and largest air and missile defense GBR, first electrostatically formed thin film antenna, Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) and other major facilities.

The above-mentioned second project broke through the three key technologies of IoT entity identity management, data security management and cross-domain permission management, and constructed the IoT data security technology system, providing support for data security services and control across businesses, management domains and physical information spaces. Compared with similar products at home and abroad, the comprehensive indicators of the developed border control gateway, cloud encryption database system, high-performance password service system, etc. rank first.

Assessed by the online review team, the discipline and professional review team, the Judging Panel and the award committee, and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, a total of 264 projects, 10 science and technology experts and one international organization have been selected for the 2020 State Science and Technology Award. Among them, there are 46 winning entries of the State Natural Science Award, including two ones of the first-class award and 44 ones of the second-class award; 61 winning entries of the State Technological Invention Award, including three ones of the first-class award and 58 ones of the second-class award; as well as 157 winning entries of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, including two ones of the special award, 18 ones of the first-class award and 137 ones of the second-class award. Eight foreign experts and one international organization won the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award. Academician Gu Songfen at Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd and Academician Wang Dazhong at Tsinghua University were honored with the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, China's top science award.
