During the COVID-19 epidemic, Xidian explored an innovative online teaching mode, using Ding Talk to combine live broadcasting and meeting technology with group tasks, discussions, online workshop, flipped classroom and document editing in English learning. Instead of applying offline teaching methods directly to online, these approaches transformed knowledge passing to discussion and cooperation.

“Ding Talk community has been gradually integrated with different English teaching phase, such as material preparation, reading sharing, classroom organization and language application, homework assignment, self-assessment, examination.” said Wanqing Chen, an English course director at Xidian University.

Ding Talk English community has enriched occasions in which students communicate in English, and guided students to self-organize an online English learning community.

“We can chat, share post-reading feelings, post personal updates, debate, reflect in this community, and we all learn English in Ding Talk now.” said Yuheng Chang, a freshman at School of Computer Science and Technology. By involving in the Ding Talk community, students expressed their own ideas, communicated with their peers and commented other’s status, an effective way to integrate English learning into their daily life.
