United Xidian University and Global Partners Fight Against COVID-19

Global Partners Support Xidian University

After the outbreak of Covid-19, Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations of UNESCO, Prof. Veselin Vukotic, Rector of University of Donja Gorica, Montenegro, Mr.Sherif Sedky, Executive President of Zewail City of Science and Technology, Egypt, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Malaysia and Yuan Ze University of Taiwan, Chinaand so onexpressed their support for Xidian University tofightagainstthe epedemic.


Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations of UNESCO wrote to express his deepest sympathy and sincere support for Xidian during the coronavirus outbreak in China and hope all students, staff and their families of Xidian are doing well. He assured that he would to his utmost to maintain and strengthen partnership and cooperation between Xidian and UNESCO. He strongly believes that international collaboration in research and science would continue to evolve and advance even in these difficult times in all areas to create a climate of mutual trust.

Prof. Veselin Vukotic, Rector of University of Donja Gorica, Montenegro, expressed his sincere sympathy and believed that China would efficiently solve this problem and their mind, hopes and support are with Xidian. He is sure that this unfortunate epidemic shows such adversity only reinforcesthe friendship betweenthe Chinese and Montenegrin people, and the two institutions.

Mr.Sherif Sedky, Executive President of Zewail City of Science and Technology, Egypt and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Malaysia hoped that China could overcome the epidemic and life would be back to normal soon, wishing all Xidian students andfaculty and staff doing well.

Recently, COVID-19 has outbroken and spread to more and more countries. On behalf of Xidian University, Division of International Cooperation and Exchangeshas written to 36 global partners in countries significantly affected by the epidemic to expressconcerns from Xidian and said we are assured that the outbreak of this virus is a common challenge for humanity and reinforces the importance of international cooperation, and we have every reason to believe that our ties will be closer and our collaborations deeper in the future. These ideas got unanimously approval from partners.

Aforementioned partnershavewritten back to support Xidian against the epidemic and shared measures they’ve taken to cope with it.

Korea Electronics Technology Institute wrote that with outbreak of the epidemic, health experts suggestedthey stay away from crowded people and they are working at home now, hoping the epidemic could be controlled and life would be back to normal soon.They mentioned that the global spread of infectious diseases is an unavoidable problem in the world and Covid-19 is a common threat of humanity and requires response of the international community. Under such circumstances, strong international cooperation is a necessity and we research institutions need work together, taking advantage of our talents and innovation ability to contribute to nations and the world.

University of Cagliari in Italy shared measures taken by local government and the university to cope with the epidemic and expressed their sympathy toall the people of Xidian during this sad circumstance, hoping for a rapid defeat of this infection.The Polytech Group of France extended their gratitude toprompt greetings from Xidian and introduced measures they’ve taken to guarantee normal online education of our Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools program.

Frankurt Institute for Advanced Study said that the main goal of the German health officials is to slow down the virus, and luckily situation in the state of Hessen, where FIAS is located, is not bad now.the Symposium, a collaboration project of Xidian-FIAS International Joint Research Center which was planned in May,thoughsuffered from the virus and had to be postponed. However, they are confident that the situation will improve over the time and soon collaborations will be able to continue as normal.

Online Education of Xidian Attracts Attention from Global Partner

Effected by the epidemic, Xidian chooses to give students online education and courses sinceMid February to guarantee teaching in this spring semester, and it works well.

Dr. Robert Griffiths,Associate Vice President of Distance Education in the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE) , Ohio State University, wrote to express his appreciation of Xidian to do online education well during the outbreak of Covid-19. He said that OSUis going to teach their students online for a period of time like Xidian and it is good
to learn from others. And he would also like to give help and support to Xidian for its online education practice if necessary.
