Guangzhou Institute of Technology (GIT) is a newly established high-level and internationalized industry-education-research integrated institute co-built by Xidian University and Guangzhou Development District. Its establishment is a key strategy of the University to meet national strategic requirements, take advantage of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA)’s development opportunity and support local economic development. GIT focuses on such areas as integrated circuit, artificial intelligence, big data, 5G application, internet of things, and cyber security so that it would grow into a highland of facilitating industry-education integration and gathering talents.

GIT is located in the Zhongxin Knowledge City, Huangpu District of Guangzhou, with a total investment of about 3.5 billion yuan. The first phase is planned to cover an area of 30 acres and a total building area of about 330,000 square meters, which is expected to be put into use in 2023.In late 2023, there will be a faculty of over 200 faculty and 2000 postgraduate students.During the transitional period, the research and talent cultivation will be carried out in the HSI Knowledge Center of Zhongxin Knowledge City. The full-time teachers at GIT include academicians, Changjiang Scholars, outstanding young scholars, special experts of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and leading talents of the Ten Thousand Program.

In terms of talent cultivation, GIT aims to promote innovation of professional postgraduate education, explore industry-education integration mechanism, and facilitate the connection of education, talents, industry and innovation. It implements industry-education-research project-oriented professional postgraduates cultivation model so as to display the characteristics of postgraduate education of Xidian University. GIT innovatively explores the “three-supervisor” system — academic supervisor, industry supervisor, and artificial intelligence supervisor. It follows the pattern of courses learning (0.5 year), professional practice (0.5 year), research practice (1.5 years), and thesis & defending (0.5 year).Efforts are being made to continue the “Xidian phenomenon” in the training of top application-oriented talents in the electronic information field in the new era.

The national, social and market needs are GIT’s springboard and foothold of research innovation and achievements transformation. Focusing on the industry requirements of Guangzhou, GIT takes Xidian University’s leading disciplines to Guangzhou, such as information and telecommunications engineering, electronic science & technology, computer science & technology, and cyber security and electronic information. Based on the micro-electronic chip technology, intelligent electronic technology and cyber security, the institute is dedicated to supporting market development and innovative application of the third-generation semi-conductor, internet of intelligence and industrial internet in Guangzhou, thus contributing to its hard technology and development of relevant research areas and industries.
